WILLIS, Texas — A 27-year-old Willis woman is fighting for her life after being shot by her husband, according to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office.

Sarah and Justin Hanel were married in 2007.
Sarah Hanel, 27, was last reported in critical condition at Memorial Hermann Hospital.
She has a gunshot wound to the chest.
The shooting happened at the couple’s home in the 9000 block of Zapata Drive.
Justin Hanel told deputies he woke up early Tuesday after hearing noises and thought there was an intruder in the house.
Hanel, 25, said he fired several shots at the figure walking toward the bedroom.
That’s when he realized the “intruder” was actually his wife.
Hanel called 911 and told the dispatcher he had accidentally shot his wife.
The investigation is continuing. Hanel was not arrested and the case will be forwarded to the District Attorney’s Office for review.
